Aldi to open 10 new stores this summer

Aldi is planning to open more than 10 new stores across the UK in the coming months as it continues with its rapid expansion plans.

The discounter said the new locations put it on track to meet its target of opening 35 new supermarkets this year under a £550m investment.

New Aldi stores in Waltham Cross in Hertfordshire and Olney Park in Milton Keynes will open in the next month, while towns such as Aberdare in Wales, Broughty Ferry in Dundee and Leytonstone in London will see new shops open “in the near future”.

The supermarket is also gearing up to open branches in: Beckton, London; Middleton, Leeds; Rugeley, Staffordshire; Gosforth, Tyne and Wear; Holloway Road, London; and Shepshed, Leicester.

Aldi UK real estate managing director Jonathan Neale said: “At Aldi, we want to ensure that high quality yet affordable food is available to everyone which is why we are continuing to expand across the UK.

“We have already opened several new stores this year, from Skelmersdale in Lancashire and Newport in Wales to Castle Gresley in Derbyshire and High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, and now we’re excited to bring Aldi to even more communities over the coming months.”

Alongside expanding its UK footprint to up to 1,500 stores nationwide, Aldi is also investing more than £90m on store improvements this year as it looks to ensure the “shopping experience is on a par with the high-quality products”.

Over 30 of its stores will undergo refurbishments this summer, while more than 100 are set to receive upgrades later this year.
